The labour ministry has held meetings with the social partners but no Platform Work Directive proposal has yet been released.
The platform lobby is very active in Latvia and the labour ministry has held a meeting with the main platforms about the Directive, separate from the meeting with social partners.
The Latvian elections will be in October 2026 and it is not clear yet whether the Directive will be transposed before the elections or not.
Unions are concerned about rough plans from the ministry which would require platform workers to trigger the legal presumption of employment, believing that the labour inspectorate should take a more active role in employment re-classification.
